A new study suggests that laughter can be just as beneficial for your brain as meditation. Both of them cause 'gamma' brain wave activity, in which almost the entire brain syncs into the same frequency. Pretty cool huh? This is what happens when a person is 'in the flow/in the zone' and is considered to be the highest state of cognitive processing.
Plus it releases a lot of dopamine, the brain's joy neurochemical, making us want to get back in the zone again. Apparently this also means that meditation is as fun as laughter? While meditation has well established health benefits it is interesting to note that laughter is just as good for you. The study was presented last week by Dr. Lee Berk at Loma Linda University's school of medicine.
